Customized Low-Power IoT Solutions to Meet Your Unique Needs

The Four Pillars that Make Up SODAQ’s Engineering Department.

In the rapidly evolving world of IoT, numerous tracking and sensing solutions exist. However, off-the-shelf products don’t always align with specific requirements of each organization. This is where customization becomes crucial, and this is where SODAQ’s Engineers shine. They specialize in creating tailored low-power IoT solutions, either as standalone products or seamlessly integrated as an extension of your engineering department.

In this article, we will discuss the four fundamental pillars that make up SODAQ’s engineering department: hardware, software, data and industrial design.

Hardware

SODAQ’s hardware expertise lies in designing and developing revolutionary, low-power components for rapid prototyping of tracking and sensing solutions. One such example is the Inclinometer, an autonomous device designed to measure the inclination of utility poles or other objects and detect impacts. The device performs daily measurements, sending results to the IoT platform, SODAQ’s Silica Dashboard, over narrowband. This approach ensures that maintenance is only required when tilting or an impact is registered.

For the Inclinometer, SODAQ employed a new chipset from Qualcomm, featuring power-harvesting technology for efficient supercapacitor recharging. The device also integrates a small solar panel and an activation sensor, optimizing its battery life and functionality. Activating the device is as simple as passing a magnet by the sensor, making it a versatile and efficient solution requiring little maintenance.

Software

At SODAQ, we conceptualize, design, and develop autonomous custom software capable of seamlessly interacting with smart environments. A prime example is the SODAQ AIR, a portable air quality monitor providing real-time, location-specific data on air composition, including particulate matter, temperature, humidity, and shock.

Data

The SODAQ AIR also serves as a  prime example of our commitment to building data-driven solutions. Our cloud team developed the KnowYourAir map,  a public data source offering global air quality measurements which are captured through the AIR device. This map is a valuable resource for individuals, smart cities, and governments, allowing them to access and analyze data from locations where AIR devices are in use. Detailed information such as temperature, humidity, and particulate matter levels can be obtained, and the data is downloadable from the map.

Industrial design

SODAQ’s engineers blend functionality with aesthetics to create robust designs, ensuring an exceptional user experience and flawless performance. An outstanding example is the Smart Label, a paper-thin tracking solution adherable to shipments. Its features include a single-use printed battery, real-time accurate location tracking, accelerometer, movement and shock detection, flight mode, and a temperature sensor.

What sets the industrial design of the Smart Label apart is its unique ultra-thin design. Despite being only a few millimeters thick, it also accommodates revolutionary technology that provides a comprehensive overview of the supply chain. Recognizing that packages come in various shapes and sizes, the Smart Label is available in tailored dimensions, making it suitable for any shipment.
